The Marketing Skill You Must Master!

The Marketing Skill You Must Master!

Whether you’re a growing business or a struggling entrepreneur, there’s one area of marketing that you simply can’t overlook. Your website design is good, traffic is coming in to the site, but you just are not getting those numbers up, and here’s the reason why: You haven’t mastered the art of conversion.

What are Conversion Rates, and why do they Matter?

Every website has a conversion rate, and many sites have several. A conversion rate is the rate at which traffic to a site takes a desired action, such as subscribing to a newsletter, downloading an eBook, or purchasing a product. Conversion rates are actually much easier to increase than traffic rates, so getting your visitors to convert is what will really boost your bottom line.

Conversion rates matter because if you’re getting traffic to your website, but those visitors are not taking your desired action, it’s a missed opportunity. Now, not every single person who lands on your site is going to heed that call to action, but if you construct it properly, then a decent percentage of those visitors will.

In order to find your current conversion rate, you need to take your total conversions and divide that by the numbers of visitors to your site. You may be surprised by how low your rate is at this point. The good news is that there are always ways that you can improve it by using a variety of techniques. It takes time, and you’ll need to run some tests, but ultimately, you should be able to improve your numbers by making the right changes.

Finding and Focusing on Your Target Market

Keep in mind that it’s more valuable to you in the long run to focus on converting visitors who are among your target market. Getting any traffic to convert isn’t the way to establish long term success. It is crucial that you know who your ideal visitor is, and then take steps to target them and get them onto your website.

You want visitors who are interested in what you have to offer, and then you want them to spread the word. Don’t worry about increasing your overall traffic numbers, just worry about getting existing traffic to convert.

There are many different ways to improve your conversion rates, but it does take time and effort. If you’re starting a website design from scratch, then you can focus in on this area right away. If you already have a site up and running, then you need to focus on areas of improvement.

The beauty in increasing your conversion rate is that you’ll have more money to direct towards bringing in new traffic. Capitalize on the visitors that are coming in right now, and give them what they want. Web users aren’t going to stick around for more than a few seconds if they don’t see something that they like, so give it to them as soon as possible. Conversion is a marketing skill that you can’t afford not to master.
